Garden designers.
In Enterprise week Zoe came in to talk about her job. She is an architect which means she designs the layout of houses and gardens. She showed us how she takes measurements and draws her plans to scale.
She showed us a set of plans and explained the symbols.
We were so excited by her job we decided to draw our own garden plans!

Visiting a garden
This term our topic is 'Plants and Gardens'. We wanted to know 'What are gardens for?'
So we went and asked an expert!
Mrs. Hinsley is a garden designer. She explained how she designs a garden to meet the customers needs.These usually include relaxation, eating out, growing herbs, fruit and vevetables, storage, recreation or playing, encouraging wildlife and even drying the washing!
She considers which surfaces are flat and suitable for paving or decking, where the sun shines in, what needs to be sheltered or near the house and which are not so pretty and need to be hidden away!
We were very impressed at how Mrs Hinsley recycles water and creates her own compost to feed back into the earth.
We think Mrs Hinsley has done a great job on her garden!

Raising money
We want to raise money for the WWF an organisation that protects endangered animals and their habitats and works to preserve the earths natural resources for future generations, We decided our business must be environmentally friendly so we used only reusable dessert pots and recycled china for plant holders.
Here we are selling our goods at the enterprise fair and raising LOTS of money for the WWF!
Enterprise week
This week we have found out about the different ways people can earn a living and thought about how we could set up a small business ourselves.
In science we have been learning how plants reproduce and have planted seeds, separated plants and taken and rooted cuttings. We have many plants growing in our classroom that have cost us nothing to produce!
As Mothers day and Easter are coming soon we thought we could market our plants as gifts.

World Book Day
On World Book Day we all dressed up as chareacters from our favourite books.
We wrote book reviews explaining why we thought these books were successful.

In the afternoon some children from Year 6 came and read stories to us. We had a lovely day!
